The DOLE 6 is currently holding a series of Safety Awareness Training as one of the basic requirements of the Department in the lifting of the Work Stoppage Order (WSO) to establishments engaged in the manufacture and sale of pyrotechnics and firecrackers.
Other requirements include the Fire Safety Inspection Certificate issued by the BFP and License to deal in Firecrackers and Pyrotechnic Devices issued by the PNP.
During the opening ceremonies, DOLE OIC-Regional Director Salome O. Siaton emphasized in her message that the “workers’ monetary benefits can be compromised but not their safety and health.”

Siaton said that this training is necessary to promote the workers’ health and safety by preventing the occurrence of sickness and accident in their worksites.
It covered the topics on Accident Causation which covers unsafe and unhealthy acts and conditions in the workplace; Personal Protective Equipment; Safe Handling and Storage of Hazardous Chemicals; Occupational Health in the Workplace; Requirements on the retail and selling of firecrackers and pyrotechnics; and, Salient features of Republic Act 7183.
Meanwhile, the DOLE field offices in Capiz, Aklan, Guimaras and Antique have also conducted Safety Awareness Training alongside the provincial offices of PNP and BFP on December 12, 13, 14, and 15, respectively.
In Capiz, 112 workers attended the training, Aklan - 130, Guimaras - 47, and Antique – 65.
The local government of Passi City also facilitated the conduct of said training on December 15, 2016 attended by 62 workers.
Another training is scheduled to be held simultaneously in Guimaras and Iloilo Provinces on December 20, 2016.
It can be recalled that on November 24, 2016, DOLE Secretary Silvestre H. Bello III issued Work Stoppage Order to establishments engaged in manufacturing and selling of firecrackers and pyrotechnics due to the fatal accidents in Luzon which claimed the lives of five workers and injured several others.
