DOLE to hold Labor Day Job and Business Fairs

In celebration of the 115th Labor Day on May 1, the Department of Labor and Employment, along with its partners, will conduct Job and Business Fairs at the Atria Park District, Brgy. San Rafael, Mandurriao, Iloilo City.


Adopting the concept of Trabaho, Negosyo, Kabuhayan, a joint undertaking of the DOLE and the Department of Trade and Industry, these events aim to create numerous jobs in Key Employment Generating Sectors or KEGS specifically in the manufacturing, agribusiness, construction, tourism, IT-BPM, transportation and logistics, and retail trade as well as apprise and advocate jobseekers to consider entrepreneurial and/or business opportunities.


These events also aim to build strong partnership among member-agencies such as the DOLE, DTI, and major stakeholders in the private sector.


To date, some 45 local companies and overseas recruitment agencies with a total of 14,261 job openings have already signed up to join in the job fair.


For local employment, the top ten vacancies include customer service (2,500); billing and collection representatives (300); teachers (300); customer service associates (200); travel associates (200); technical support associates (150); nurses (57); salesmen (25); drivers (17); and, supervisors (15).


On the other hand, the top ten vacancies for overseas employment are household service worker (710); service crew (476); delivery man (388); barista (200); labor cleaning (133); nurse (100); installer assistants (55); drivers for heavy equipment (51); Operator CNC (44); and, waiter (44).


According to DOLE 6 Regional Director Henry John S. Jalbuena, the number of participating local companies and overseas recruitment agencies as well as the vacancies is expected to increase in the next few days.


 “I am thus inviting the employers in Iloilo and in the neighboring provinces with job openings to join the Labor Day Job and Business Fairs on May 1 and be one with this Department in facilitating the employment of the jobseekers,” Jalbuena said.

Aside from the job fair, there will be an Employment Coaching with topics on labor relations, life skills and livelihood, and Advocacy on Entrepreneurship which include topics on How to start a business and Characteristics of Entrepreneurship. This activity will be attended by about 100 millennials.


A One-stop Shop will also be set-up to assist the job applicants in their documentary requirements which include the services of Pag-IBIG, Social Security System, PhilHealth, Bureau of Internal Revenue, Philippine Statistics Authority, Philippine Postal Corporation, and Professional Regulation Commission, among others.


There will be a DOLE Clinic composed of the DOLE family of agencies to provide various services i.e. pre-employment services (coaching, career information, seminar/training), labor standards enforcement, dispute resolution, and livelihood assistance.


DOLE’s major partners in these events include the Atria Park District, Philippine Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Inc., ABS-CBN, Globe Telecom, Interface Computer College, and various national government agencies.
