DOLE 6 to commemorate Independence Day, World Day Against Child Labor

The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) Region 6, along with partners, is gearing up for the celebration of Independence Day on June 12, this year.

The DOLE 6 will celebrate this momentous event with Job and Business Fairs wherein a good number of local companies and overseas recruitment agencies are expected to join and offer thousands of vacancies for local and overseas employment.

Aside from the celebration of the Araw ng Kalayaan and in collaboration with partners, the DOLE 6 will also join in the international observance of World Day Against Child Labor to raise awareness on the plight of child laborers and to demonstrate the Region’s solidarity in the worldwide campaign against child labor.

This year’s theme “In conflicts and disasters, protect children from child labor,” focuses on the vulnerability of children to trafficking and child labor in areas affected by conflict and disaster.

This occasion will be observed by giving out school supplies to identified child laborers or children at risk of child labor during the opening ceremonies of the job and business fairs so as to encourage them to remain in school.

As part of its advocacy, it will also conduct a learning session on Republic Act 9231 and the DOLE Child Labor Prevention Program from June 5 and 19, 2017 to employers and workers for the purpose of awareness-raising on child labor-related concerns.
