DOLE, DTI to beef up Independence Day Job and Business Fairs

The Department of Labor and Employment Region 6, in partnership with the Department of Trade and Industry, will give a boost to the Job and Business Fairs this coming June 12 in celebration of the country’s 119th Independence Day with a theme “Kalayaan 2017: Pagbabago Sama-samang Balikatin.”

Adopting the concept of Trabaho, Negosyo, at Kabuhayan (TNK), the DOLE, in collaboration with the DTI, has lined up several activities from June 11-12, 2017 at the Marymart Center, Delgado-Valeria Sts., Iloilo City.

Aside from the traditional Job Fair on June 12, there will be Employment Coaching and Entrepreneurship Advocacy on June 11 at 1:30pm-5:00pm (1st batch) and June 12 from 9:00am-12:00nn (2nd batch).

The Employment Coaching will focus on the basic rights of workers and life skills which are helpful for graduates when they enter the world of work, while the Entrepreneurship Advocacy will cover topics on how to start a business and entrepreneurship so as to guide those who wish to venture into business after graduation.

Graduates and graduating students of the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) accredited institutions were invited to attend this activity.

Different methodologies will be used in imparting significant knowledge and skills to the participants such as lectures, audio-visual presentation and testimonies from successful entrepreneurs.

The DOLE Clinic/Help Desk will provide the different services of the DOLE family of agencies starting on June 11 (1:30pm to 5:00pm) until June 12 (9:00am-5:00pm). The Department of Science and Technology, DTI, DA, TESDA, Social Security System, PhilHealth and Pag-IBIG will also make their services available to the jobseekers and the public.

The holding of skills demonstration on June 12 was agreed upon by partners; thus, the DA will facilitate flower arranging as well as grafting and marcoting in the morning, while the DTI will handle Fabric Manipulation thru Stitching & Embellishment, Crafts (Fashion Accessories) and Hand Painting on Textile & Pottery.


Another feature of the 2017 Kalayaan Job and Business Fair and as a component of the TNK, a showcasing of the different products of selected DOLE, DTI and DA-assisted projects will be held at the area beside McDonald’s.

In observance of the World Day Against Child Labor, which is also celebrated on June 12, the DOLE and partners will also release school kits to about 50 children at risk of becoming child laborers from a depressed barangay in the Municipality of Tigbauan, Iloilo to encourage and inspire the children to remain in school.


To formalize the partnership of the DOLE, DTI and other stakeholders, there will be a Manifesto signing of the Trabaho, Negosyo, at Kabuhayan: A Blueprint for Decent Employment and Entrepreneurship 2017-2022, which spells out the roles and responsibilities of the each partner from the government as well as the private sectors in implementing and monitoring several strategies that will increase employment levels taking into account new entrants to labor force every year, ensure that jobs are decent, and underemployment is reduced.
