Region 6’s One-Stop Service Center serves 241,946 OFWs in 8 mos.

The vigorous efforts of President Duterte’s administration to immediately respond to the needs and demands of the overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) is felt with the establishment of the One-Stop Service Center for OFWs (OSSCO) in all regions in the country.

Since its establishment in October 2017, the OSSCO in Region 6, located at the 3rd level of Robinson’s Place Iloilo, Ledesma-Mabini Sts., Iloilo City has already served a total of 241,946 OFWs.

For the first half of 2017, it has served some 181,912 OFWs notwithstanding a good number of local workers also served.

DOLE 6 Regional Director Johnson G. Cañete was pleased to learn that the OSSCO has been reaching out to a lot of OFWs in Western Visayas.

He however expressed disappointment over the failure of some national government agencies (NGAs) in joining the OSSCO despite DOLE’s invitation due to inadequate personnel.

“If we just look at the manpower complement, kami rin undermanned sa DOLE Region 6 but this is one of the thrusts of the Duterte’s administration,” Cañete said.

The NGAs comprising the OSSCO are the Department of Foreign Affairs, Department of Labor and Employment, Overseas Workers Welfare Administration, Philippine Overseas Employment Administration, Professional Regulation Commission, Bureau of Internal Revenue, Tourism Infrastructure and Economic Zone Authority, Pag-IBIG, Social Security System, PhilHealth, Technical Education and Skills Development Authority and Philippine Statistical Authority.
