DOLE 6’s TUPAD Project benefitted 8,362 Antiquenos

Towards the end of 2017, some 8,362 Antiqueños have been given the opportunity to work for 25 days through the Department of Labor and Employment’s (DOLE) Region 6’s Tulong Panghanapbuhay para sa Ating Disadvantaged or Displaced Workers (TUPAD), just in time for the holiday season.

Underemployed women and displaced workers, as well as migratory sugarcane workers or sacadas and their families have benefitted from the numerous TUPAD projects recently implemented in the different municipalities in Antique, in collaboration with the provincial government of that Province.

The beneficiaries were employed in the various community work projects in their respective municipalities, which include planting of trees, mangroves and ornamental plants; cleaning of road shoulders and coastal areas; declogging of drainage and canals; and, improvement and beautification of barangays.

All 18 municipalities in Antique, including the island municipality of Caluya, were covered in the implementation of this Project which paid a total of P67,924,010.06 for the salaries of 8,362 worker-beneficiaries for 25 days, with each worker receiving an average of P8,000.

The beneficiaries were grateful for the opportunity given by DOLE Region 6 through this Project as it did not only provide employment opportunities to thousands of Antiqueños but also make the Province of Antique, one of the 6 provinces of Western Visayas cleaner and greener, with a brighter and more promising future to look forward to as far as tourism growth and economic development are concerned.
