DOLE 6 extends livelihood assistance to deceased OFW’s family

The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) 6 extended various assistance to the grieving family of the late Joanna Daniela Demafelis, an overseas Filipino worker (OFW) whose body was found in a freezer in an abandoned apartment in Kuwait.

According to DOLE 6 Regional Director Johnson G. Cañete, his Office turned over last February 16, 2018 three piglets weighing 10-12 kgs for the Hog Fattening Project of the family, along with other stocks such as 90 kgs Hog Starter Mash; 150 kgs Hog Grower Pellet; 90 kgs Hog Finisher Pellet; one bottle (10ml.) Dewormer; and one botlle (20ml.) Vitamin B-Complex).

The Technical Education and Skills Development Authority 6 also awarded last Wednesday, February 21, the Certificates of Scholarship for technical-vocational courses in Housekeeping and Cooking to two of Joanna’s relatives after Cañete sought its assistance for the provision of scholarship to the other members of her family.

Cañete also indorsed today to the Commission on Higher Education for possible provision of scholarship the name of Joanna’s sister, a 3rd year Criminology student who dropped out of college when the family no longer received financial assistance from her.

Cañete was hopeful that Joanna’s sister will be considered for a scholarship.

He was also hopeful that these assistance will help assuage the pains and sufferings of Joanna’s family.
