MASBOI MPC received 1 Million grant from DOLE

Iloilo City, Philippines. 399 members of the Malay Association Sailing Boat Owner’s Incorporated (MASBOI) Sailboat Multi-Purpose Cooperative will benefit from the P1,000,000.00 grant released by the Department of Labor and Employment Region 6 during the simultaneous activities held in Boracay last July 8, 2018.

 

The financial assistance provided by DOLE under its DILEEP Kabuhayan will fund MASBOI MPC’s Rice Retailing project. The Project Assistance thru “RICE RETAILING” for Affected Workers of Boracay Closure (PARRAW – BC) coop-managed project of MASBOI MPC is a food security measure and income generating initiative that will provide alternative source of income to sailors and crew members affected by the temporary closure of the resort island. A total volume of 350 sacks of rice will be allotted to members which will be sold at P2,250.00/sack, while an estimated quantity of 50 sacks will be made available to the prospective consumers in the community.

 

          MASBOI MPC, established in 2012 evolved from an association which aimed to improve the socio-economic wellbeing of its members, composed of small pump boat owners and their local crew, by providing viable entrepreneurial activities to uplift their living conditions. Currently, it is a self-reliant, self-liquidating cooperative with an asset of P7 Million comprising of real properties, functional amenities and the operation of a water refilling station. 

 

          Secretary Silvestre H. Bello III, DOLE 6 Regional Director Atty. Johnson G. Cañete, together with other guests handed the check over to the program beneficiaries. Bello also encouraged the recipients to nurture the amount that they received from the government.

 

          The releasing of the 1 million livelihood grant to MASBOI MPC was one of the highlights of the event held for the benefit of workers affected by the closure of Boracay Island.
