Barangay in Belison gets financial assistance from DOLE

Antique, Philippines. One barangay in Antique’s smallest municipality gets financial assistance from Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) under its Kabuhayan Program.


The Department of Labor and Employment recently released a check amounting to P1,900,981.00 to Barangay Mojon in the Municipality of Belison, Antique for the various livelihood projects of its 100 beneficiaries.


Ms. Melisa S. Navarra, Head of Antique Field Office said that the financial assistance extended by DOLE will support the various livelihood projects of the beneficiaries who are indigent residents, mostly self-employed workers with insufficient income, low-wage and seasonal workers, farm laborers and fisherfolks. 


Of the 100 beneficiaries, 3 of them will engage in dress making, 2 in carpentry, 14 in sari-sari store, 1 in welding, 4 in rice trading, 2 in food vending, 3 in catering services, 21 in swine fattening, 1 in fishing, 33 in cattle fattening and 16 in farming. 

Barangay Mojon is one of the 11 barangays in the Municipality of Belison with a land area of 162 hectares and a total population of 490 wherein 207 families survived in rice and sugar farming. The barangay produces rice, muscovado sugar, copra, handicrafts, vegetables and fruits.


The main objective of the Kabuhayan Program is to improve the quality of life of marginalized workers through provision of sustainable livelihood projects.  DOLE is hopeful that through this program, beneficiaries who will manage individually their respective projects will increase their monthly income by 30% or more to meet the basic needs of their families particularly, the educational needs of their children.
