Convergence Project on Sustainable and Resilient Farming launched in Aklan

 

Oyang, Libacao, Aklan – Supporting TESDA’s call for food security and focus on agriculture interventions, DOLE-Aklan participated in the launch of the program entitled Sustainable and Resilient Livelihood Program for Indigenous People (IP) on July 30, 2020 at Agbatuan, Oyang, Libacao, Aklan.

 

The program, participated by various national government agencies (NGAs) targets to help IP farmers fight poverty and insurgency. It also aims to support 100 targeted farmers and growers of the Akeanon Bukidnon tribe from Brgys. Manika and Oyang, Libacao, Aklan in moving towards sustainable and resilient farming approaches. These barangays are considered as ancestral domains of IPs in Aklan. Under the program, the beneficiaries will be capacitated to manage and monitor farming risks and learn innovative skills building on both traditional and modern techniques.

 

During the launch, DOLE-Aklan discussed the salient features of the DOLE Integrated Livelihood Program (DILP) to the participants and beneficiaries. The Department also committed to provide tool kits and raw materials amounting to Php500,000.00 for the implementation of their Integrated Farming Project.

Colas, Jr., Indigenous People Mandatory Representative (IPMR), Frances Arnaiz of Office of the Provincial Agriculturist, Mr. Romulo Del Rosario of OPAPP, Acting PD Esther B. Babalo of TESDA Aklan, Department Heads of LGU-Libacao, PNP personnel, tribal chieftains and leaders, barangay officials of Oyang, Libacao, and IP beneficiaries attended the launch.
