Grassroots farmers, small businessmen receive DOLE livelihood assistance

Grassroots farmers and micro-entrepreneurs who are members of Hublag EVELIO, Inc. (HEI), a non-government organization in the Province of Antique, received a P3,390,480.00 livelihood assistance from the Department of Labor and Employment under the Kabuhayan Program.

 

The financial assistance will support the Backyard Layer Chicken Project that will be individually managed by 170 beneficiaries from the municipalities of Hamtic, San Jose de Buenavista, Sibalom and Belison.

DOLE Regional Director Cyril L. Ticao turned over the check to Fr. Edione R. Febrero, Executive Director of HEI in the presence of HEI officers and some of the project beneficiaries last August 21, 2020.

 

In his message, Dir Ticao encouraged beneficiaries to take care and manage properly and responsibly the livelihood project provided to them, so it will grow and become sustainable and will truly serve its ultimate purpose which is to improve the economic condition of the beneficiaries and their families.

 

Through Kabuhayan Program, DOLE hopes to alleviate the impact of the current economic crisis brought about by COVID-19 pandemic among the Antiqueños. 

 

The livelihood project intends to provide additional sources of income to the beneficiaries and develop their capacity to engage in and manage properly diversified livelihoods in their respective homes and backyards. 

 

Fr. Edione R. Febrero, expressed his gratitude to DOLE for giving HEI the opportunity to become DOLE Accredited Co-Partner (ACP) in the implementation of its Kabuhayan Program and for approving their project proposal on Backyard Layer Chicken.  He hopes the project would develop the resiliency of the HEI beneficiaries, sustain their livelihood and increase their income.

 

He added that HEI has partnered with the Antique Catholic Workers Multi-Purpose Cooperative (ACWMPC) as its marketing arm and has also linked with some establishments like bakeshops and individuals to ensure the marketing aspect of the project. The project is expected have an average produce of 900 eggs per month.

 

Hublag Evelio, Inc. (HEI) is a non-government organization established in honor of then Governor Evelio Javier who was assasinated on February 11, 1986.  It started as a movement to continue the ideals of the then governor who is considered a hero of the Antiqueños.  The Movement Hublag Enlightened and Vigilant Endeavor towards Liberation from Injustice and Oppression (EVELIO) was named after him.
