Keeping an eye to the welfare of the marginalized sector, DOLE Regional Office 6 started early in providing emergency employment and livelihood projects to the vulnerable sector of the region. DOLE RO 6 through its Guimaras Field Office, extended its long helping hand to Three Thousand Nine Hundred Fifty (3,950) informal workers from Ninety-Six (96) barangays of the Five (5) municipalities of Guimaras Province to benefit from the TUPAD program.

In a simple ceremony, Regional Director Atty. Sixto T. Rodriguez, Jr.  turned over the checks worth  Eighteen Million, Forty-Five Thousand Pesos (Php18, 045, 000) to Guimaras Lone District Representative Ma. Lucille L. Nava and Guimaras Governor JC Rahman A. Nava for wages of qualified beneficiaries. On top of the personal protective equipment and GSIS group personal insurance, each beneficiary will be provided with a Four Thousand, Five Hundred Pesos (Php4,500) wages for a 10-day community service starting March 1- 14, 2023.

Regional Director Atty. Sixto T. Rodriguez, Jr.  whose leadership is anchored mainly on pro-poor services underscored the urgency of providing employment to the vulnerable sector to help uplift their living economic condition. Atty. Rodrigues added that the Regional Office through its provincial offices is fast tracking the program implementation to reach the farthest barangays and the widest range of beneficiaries.

DOLEs flagship employment program, TUPAD or Tulong Panghanapbuhay sa Ating Disadvantaged/Displaced Workers is a community-based package of assistance that provides emergency employment for displaced workers, underemployed and seasonal workers.

Mostly unemployed, displaced and disadvantaged workers from the informal sector and senior citizens, the workers will engage in road cleaning, de-clogging of drainage/canal, community clean-up, and beautification of tourist activity area, disinfection and sanitation of community public area and in agro-forestry projects such as tree planting, community gardening and group reforestation.
