Jordan, Guimaras. The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) Guimaras Field Office invited the Tripartite Industrial Peace Council (TIPC) members of Guimaras for an orientation on Department Order No. 198-18 or the Implementing Rules and Regulations of Republic Act No. 11058 last April 10, 2019. The activity which was held at the Jordan Municipal Hall was attended by twenty (20) representatives from both the public and private sector.
The orientation was conducted by Engr. Robert Onde, Labor Inspector Auditor of the Department. Onde emphasized the state’s policy which affirms labor as a primary social and economic force, and that a safe and healthy workforce is an integral aspect of nation building.
He also reiterated that the DOLE is mandated to formulate specific guidelines to ensure that every worker is protected against injury, sickness or death through safe and healthful working conditions thereby assuring the conservation of valuable manpower resources and the prevention of loss or damage to lives and properties consistent with the national development goals, and with the State commitment to the total development of every worker as complete human being.
Onde reminded the participants that compliance with the occupational health law is mandatory and necessary for each establishment. He also advised the participants that the current law is equipped with penal clauses for violators and non-compliance.
Aside from the aforesaid orientation, Ms. Arlyn E. Siaotong, Head of Guimaras Field Office also conducted a learning session on Labor Relations and Human Relations. She emphasized the important role of effective labor relations in maintaining industrial peace, improving employee relations, processing grievances and disputes as well as promoting performance management and productivity in the workplace.
The activity was also attended by Engr. Maritess dela Puerta, Municipal Engineer of Jordan, Guimaras. Her office is a strong advocate of DOLE occupational health and safety standards. They do not accept building permit applications without an approved Construction Safety and Health Program.
Engr. Ruben Corpuz, Municipal Mayor of Jordan was likewise present. Corpuz expressed his gratitude for the conduct of the aforesaid activity. He also expressed his full support and commitment for the implementation of the program. He also informed the participants that he is willing to assist them secure a Certification as First Aiders from the Philippine National Red Cross
